1 March, 1995 --------------- Data type: "c" Magnetometer is an AGSO instrument located at Learmonth and the IPS data acquisition system was setup by John Kennewell. Data is recorded on 3.5" floppy disks and sent to head office every 2 weeks. This data source should have a data type "b" as the data output from the instrument has no offset, but as the data is from the same instrument for which another data stream (lea) is given an offset during acquisition, the same data type code was used for this data stream. 8 February, 1999 ---------------- Data ceased: The AGSO instrument failed on February 11 and the last floppy disk sent had data up to and including February 8. *Note: There were several streams of data from Learmonth from 2 different magnetometers. One magnetometer was an AGSO instrument and the other was a STEL instrument. Different station abreviations were used as the data streams had different sample frequencies or resolutions, although at times the data streams were redundant but sent for comparisons. The AGSO instrument provided data which was sent hourly via phone to the ASFC (lea) and more rapidly sampled data was sent on floppy disks to the ASFC on a fortnightly basis (lem). The floppy disks ceased being sent to the ASFC following the failure of the AGSO instrument on 11th February, 1999. The AGSO instrument was replaced on 19 February, 1999 and continued to send "lea" data however, the rapidly sampled data from Learmonth was then received only from the STEL instrument on a monthly basis on zip disks (lth). Pulsation indices were also generated from the STEL magnetometer locally and sent to the ASFC via phone on an hourly basis (lmt). (RAM - 10/11/99) 25 February, 2003 ----------------- Data stream re-started, however, the data is now from the STEL instrument and is received via ftp across the IPS network. The data acquisition system is the same as used at other IPS magnetometer sites. Data type: e (RAM) 28 February, 2003 ----------------- Resolution parameters changed at 00UT after realising the values were twice as large as should have been used. Data type: e (RAM) 12 March, 2004 ----------------- Power board reset switch was tripped on 4 February, 2004 which meant no power to all SERC equipment. Problem was noticed at next disk change a month later. Power restored on 10 March. (RAM) 22 November, 2005 (RAM) -------------------------- Power outage to site resulted in data outage from approx 02UT on 21 November. Data restored approx 03UT on 22 November. ----------------------- 31 March, 2006 (JK/RAM) LSO has sustained no damage from TC Glenda. All equipment has now been brought back on line. ---------------------- 12 May, 2006 (RAM) We are now receiving data from the IPS PC logging GA data so thanks for that, however, (and there's always a but), it appears as though we are not receiving data from the STEL magnetometer. When convenient could someone please take a look. Last data approx approx 22UT on 11 May. ----------------------- 14-17 May, 2006 (BB/RAM) Problems with data processing produced intermittent data gaps during this period. There was another power outage. RAM --------------------------------- 24 July, 2006 (RAM/JK) Richard We expect a crane to be on site at LSO this Wednesday (26 July) to perform some work on the 28ft antenna. It is likely during this time that the GA and SERC magnetometers will experience some perturbations of the magnetic field. Could you please advise the appropriate GA people of this expected disturbance? Thanks. John --------------------------------- Dear colleagues, Transfield are planning on cutting a firebreak around the precincts of the Learmonth Solar Observatory on Monday 6 November. Expect some interference to magnetometer readings during the day. The IT guys here believe there is something a little strange going on with the network at Learmonth which they are investigating.
